Russia Sanctions

On 19 March 2022, the IJRU BOD met in its regularly scheduled board meeting to discuss the Russia sanctions as recommended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 28 Feb 2022.

The board made the decision to enact the following sanctions.

  1. The IJRU, being consistent with the IOC published directive, will not invite, or allow the participation of Russian athletes and officials in any international sports competitions and events until further notice, effective immediately.

  2. Russian officials in all positions, committees, and subcommittees are suspended from their post in the IJRU until further notice, effective immediately.

These sanctions were taken with the utmost consideration for the athletes, officials, and our global organization governance duties. Many IJRU members are recognized by their respective National Olympic Committees (NOCs) with similar sanctions in place. Lack of sanctions on IJRU’s account could result in additional member challenges and athlete participation within IJRU and events.  Additionally, key stakeholders and IJRU affiliates within the global sport community have enacted similar sanctions with calls to International Federations (IFs) to follow the global sport order.

Although Russian athletes and officials are temporarily suspended from international representation, IJRU has not revoked the Russia Federation membership and still supports their local/ national level events. As we stay in close contact with our Russian member, we recognize that many of the Russian people are caught in the middle of this humanitarian crises, thus membership and support continue at the national level.

In conclusion, we ask our community for understanding and empathy toward all. Our sport has not had to consider these types of issues in our past. However, as IJRU continues to solidify its position in within the Olympic movement, our governance scope must follow suite.

Sincerely
Shaun Hamilton
IJRU President

IJRU
Russian and Belarusian Athletes and Officials

Firstly, our thoughts and prayers are with our athletes and their families, wherever you are. We sincerely hope your family and friends are safe and not deeply affected by the current events which are taking place in the Ukraine and Russia.

In accordance with IJRU’s values and principles, we condemn the acts of war that continue to escalate in the Ukraine by the Russian and Belarus governments. The global sporting community is responding to this humanitarian crisis by aligning with the IOC statement issued on 28 February:

The IOC recommendations are clear and calls for strong action against Russia and Belarus to be taken as quickly as possible.

  • The IOC EB (Executive Board) recommends that International Sports Federations and sports event organisers not to invite or allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions.

  • The IOC EB maintains its urgent recommendation not to organise any sports event in Russia or Belarus, issued on 25 February 2022.

See Full IOC Statement

IJRU has and continues to align with the Olympic Movement. Many of our member nations have achieved sportingrecognitionandaresubjecttotheirNOCspoliciesandsanctions. The IJRU Executive Committee and Board of Directors will determine the appropriate sanctions as we seek the proper guidance from our affiliated groups and associations within the Olympic Movement as soon as possible.

Again, we wish to express our heartfelt sympathies to the courageous people of Ukraine and surrounding impacted nations and their people.

Sincerely,
Shaun Hamilton
IJRU President

IJRU Market Survey
Orange and Black Collage Food Instagram Post-2.png

We need your help! The International Jump Rope Union has recently partnered with Farrell Sports Worldwide to help develop a global sponsorship strategy that will enable IJRU to promote and develop the sport at the global level. We are doing market research to learn more about what the global jump rope/rope skipping community values and how we can position our sport within the global marketplace.

Why should I take the survey?

The feedback from this survey will help us better understand our members, partners and fans. This survey will aid the sport in our strategy to grow corporate partners, media partners and commercial activity for the sport.

How long will it take to complete the survey?

This survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and at the end you can have a chance to win prizes from the IJRU. All responses will remain anonymous.

Thank you!

We would like to thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. The more we know about the global jump rope/rope skipping community, the better we can position our sport for growth, development and long-lasting success.

The International Jump Rope Union (IJRU) and the Olympic Channel have announced a collaboration agreement. Through this partnership, IJRU will work with the Olympic Channel to broadcast and promote a series of jump rope events through event coverage, highlights, magazine shows, news coverage, and original programming.

“We are excited to welcome the IJRU to the Olympic Channel,” said Mark Parkman, general manager of the Olympic Channel. “The Olympic Channel platform continues to evolve and provide more exposure and reach for a number of sports to our global audience.”

“We are honoured to be in partnership with the Olympic Channel and the wider Olympic Movement and we are excited for the opportunity to provide greater exposure to our sport, amazing athletes and members.” said Shaun Hamilton, president of the International Jump Rope Union. “Through this partnership, we hope to highlight this fun sport’s athleticism and creativity.”

Music Rights and Licensing

The use of music in our sport has become foundational to freestyle routines as well as general production of our events. As a result, we must act responsibly in respecting the music rights of the artists and writers who create the music. International Federations (IFs) from all sports have had to address the use of copyrighted music in their events.

To solve this problem, IJRU has partnered with a reputable music rights service, ClicknClear - a professional music industry licensing company with the backing of music industry rightsholders. We encourage our members to explore this resource and learn more about music rights and licences.

Attend an upcoming music rights webinar

To help you understand music licensing and to find out how to access and licence music through, ClicknClear, we invite you to attend an upcoming webinar.

We’ll be holding two music rights webinars at the following dates and times:

  • February 5 at 10:00 a.m. UTC

  • February 6 at 1:00 p.m. UTC

What do I need to know for the World Championships?

Athletes and teams will not be required to purchase music licences in order to compete this year, however, we encourage you learn about music rights and purchase your music through ClicknClear.

Benefits of licensing music

Here are some key benefits for athletes and our sport as a whole:

  • Obtain official music industry licenses at a pre-cleared affordable rate that is far lower than you could achieve individually.

  • Instantly license music via ClicknClear’s website – pay and receive the license immediately.

  • Legally create a music mix to accompany your routine, protecting yourself and the sport as a whole.

  • Additional video rights become available for further licensing by IJRU and other competition organizers.

  • Share jump rope/rope skipping content online using your freestyle music, to help grow our sport.

  • ClicknClear gives a legal indemnity with each license to their music.

 About ClicknClear

Navigating global music rights can be an overwhelming task. To solve this problem, IJRU has partnered with a reputable music rights service, ClicknClear.

ClicknClear is a professional music industry licensing company with the backing of music industry rightsholders – they have created a one-stop online marketplace where you can quickly and easily license from a large and rapidly-growing catalogue of great original music with the all the rights you need to use in your sports mix, alongside your performances.

ClicknClear has many genres of music, as well as music from around the world. You’ll find tracks from iconic and current stars as well as up and coming artists and producers.

When teams license music from ClicknClear for their mix, IJRU and other competition organisers are  then able to license the further online music rights we need to help popularize our sport and eliminate the need to mute video or live streams of performances.
