COLORADO SPRINGS AIRPORT JOINS AS FIRST OFFICIAL SPONSOR OF 2023 WORLD JUMP ROPE CHAMPIONSHIPS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The International Jump Rope Union (IJRU) announced a partnership with the Colorado Springs Airport as an Official Sponsor for the 2023 World Jump Rope Championships.

The event will be July 16-23, 2023, at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which is known as Olympic City USA. The event will have 3,000 participants (athletes, coaches and officials) from more than 30 countries and will mark the first time the event will be held in Colorado Springs.

The event is a partnership of the IJRU, the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, VisitCOS and Colorado College.

The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) provides convenient and comfortable air travel to not only Colorado Springs’ residents, but passengers across the world. COS offers daily flights to major hubs for direct or easy connecting options. The airport prides itself on being “Colorado’s small airport,” with small lines, small walks, small waits, but big options. The 12-gate terminal impressively enplaned over one million passengers in 2022, which is the highest level of enplanements the airport has seen in 22 years.  With nine nonstop destinations across five airlines, travelers have big choices at Colorado’s small airport.

”With athletes, coaches, families and spectators coming from 30 countries around the world, we know COS will be the perfect welcome to Olympic City USA,” said Greg Phillips, Director of Aviation, Colorado Springs Airport. “This community is built for attracting global travelers and we are thrilled that COS will be their first impression.”

”When selecting Colorado Springs as the host for our World Championships, one of the things that stood out was the community and the ease of travel and the closeness of the airport to downtown hotels and the competition venues,” said IJRU President Shaun Hamilton. “Making travel easier for our athletes and teams is a huge benefit to improving the mind-blowing performances you will see from our sport.”

The sport of jump rope is one of the most accessible, diverse and economical sports for participation. Featured events include:

·       Double Dutch Contest – urban culture fuses with acrobatics, dance and music

·       Single Rope and Double Dutch Speed – the fastest jumpers alive

·       Single Rope and Double Dutch Freestyle – acrobatics with unlimited skill combinations and endurance

The IJRU and the Colorado Springs Airport partnership will be showcased at the Ed Robson Arena on the Colorado College campus. The event will mark the first major international event to be hosted in the Ed Robson Arena.
